A common method of connecting individual computers to form a LAN network. An ethernet card (network interface card) is needed to do this. TCP/IP is frequently used together with an ethernet LAN to access the Internet. There are several types of Ethernet, the most common using a bus topology.

Extranet

A network that extends a closed intranet by providing access to certain people outside an organization (customers, retailers, suppliers...) who need to obtain company information on a regular basis. The extranet is not accessible to the general public over the Internet. See also: Intranet
