Vector graphic

A graphic which is defined by points, shapes and lines created with mathematical equations. Vector graphics are usually considerably smaller than bitmap graphics, and are therefore ideal for use on the Internet. Another benefit lies in their lossless scalability. Macromedia Flash is a popular vector-based program. See also: Bitmap

Virtual Server

In internet terms, a virtual server is a remote server that is shared by multiple Web site owners where each owner can use and administer it. Using a virtual server, a company or individual with a Web site can not only have their own domain name and IP address, but can administer their own file directories, add email accounts and addresses, assign multiple domain names that resolve to a basic domain name, manage their own logs and statistics analysis, and maintain passwords. Users of a virtual server, however, do not have to manage the hardware aspects of running a server, which makes it an effective way of sharing the cost of expensive line connections to the Internet.

Virus

Small program that „infects“, i.e. corrupts or damages other programs by incorporating itself into the executed program. Viruses are commonly spread through the internet and can damage entire networks. Anti-virus software such as McAfee VirusScan or Norton AntiVirus can guard against viruses and repair infected files.
